Paderborn cathedral

In 799 Charlemagne (768-814) had an "Ecclesia mirae magnitudinis“ ("a church of illustrious proportions“) built on the site where today the Paderborn cathedral stands. The cathedral in its present form was built between 1225 and 1270. The long roof ridge, the four gables on each side, the west and the east naves and the magnificent west tower with the round and square towers flanking it are all reminiscent of the heavenly Jerusalem.
